Swedish-Norwegian conference on peaceful conflict resolution

A conference on peaceful conflict resolution is being organised on 12-13 April, 2005, as part of the activities to mark the centenary of the peaceful dissolution of the union between Sweden and Norway. The purpose of the conference in Stockholm is to discuss – ahead of the UN summit in New York in September 2005 – the UN’s ability to prevent conflicts, find peaceful solutions and improve peace-building measures. Particular emphasis will be placed on UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s report “In Larger Freedom”. Some thirty countries will be represented at the conference hosted by Minister for Foreign Affairs Laila Freivalds and Norway’s Foreign Minister Jan Petersen.
