Annual Ball in Thailand

Danish singer and entertainer Tina Siel and her backing group Sir Duke entertained some 200 members of Scandinavian Society Siam on Saturday 26 April in the Grand Ball Room of the famous Oriental Hotel. Although this should have been an excellent chance for all Danish related companies and individuals to participate in a distinctly Danish evening, a disappointing number of Danes in Thailand bought tickets for the event.
Most of the Danes were seated around only one table, where they enjoyed the company of the widow of former Danish Ambassador to Thailand Franz Howitz, Mrs. Pensak Howitz, who is today Member of the Thai Senate. The table was booked by Danish consul in Pattaya Stig Vagt-Andersen.
Tina Siel and Sir Duke first entertained the audience after the excellent dinner and then came back to play during the dancing afterwards, going through af rich mix of Danish and international music.
The evening – which was also the last big Scandinavian event in Thailand arranged by departing Party Committee Chairman Kari Aaamodt – started with a Coctail Reception followed by the dinner during which the traditional lottery for among others a Scandinavian Airlines ticket to Scandinavia took place. The proceedings of the evening were managed by Swedish MD of Lux Royal in Thailand, Lars Werner.
Last time the Scandinavians in Thailand had a ball was when some 120 Danes, Swedes, Finns and Norwegians held the Garden Party on Saturday 1st of February in the lovely garden of the Danish Ambassador Mr. Ulrik Helwg-Larsen and his wife Cristina Helweg-Larsen.
All the photos from the night are available on the website of the Scandinavian Society Siam, http://www.sss.or.th
