Swedish Expo Highlights in May

After months of anticipation and preparation, Shanghai is finally ready to officially open the World Expo to the public. The Swedish pavilion will open on May 1st and some of the highlights in May include:

May 1 – Spirit of Innovation Day
On May 1st the Swedish pavilion will be inaugurated by the Swedish Minister for Trade, Dr. Ewa Björling. The inauguration ceremony will be followed by a Street by Sweden performance, a Pippi Longstocking event and painting of traditional Swedish Dala horses by both Chinese and Swedish artists. After the ceremony the exhibition will finally be opened after months of preparation!

May 9 – People’s Republic of China and Sweden celebrate 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations
In order to celebrate this historical day the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai will hold a reception in the Swedish pavilion. The Swedish Fiddler Group and Bollnäs Spelmanslag, which presently holds the prestigious title as Nordic Folk Music Masters, will participate in an EU parade during the day, and perform at the reception later in the evening.

May 23 – Sweden’s National Pavilion Day
H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf and the Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, Ms. Maud Olofsson, will honour the Swedish Pavilion with their presence on the National Pavilion Day of Sweden.

The day will be filled with cultural performances, for example artist Sofia Jannok, indie-pop band Those Dancing Days and in the evening there will be a fashion show coreagraphed by Jin Xing and Jin Xing Dance Theatre.

May 24 – Spirit of Innovation Forum
Sweden has frequently been ranked as one of the most innovative countries in the world and because of this ‘Spirit of Innovation’ has been chosen as the main theme for the Swedish Expo participation. The first out of four high level Forums in the pavilion, will be arranged on May 24 and the topics will be ‘Leadership for Innovation’ and ‘Financing Innovation’. On the same day there will be a CEO Round Table organized by Invest in Sweden Agency, the Chinese Private Enterprise Pavilion Committee and the Swedish Expo Committee. The Round Table will facilitate a meeting between a Swedish delegation of CEOs and their Chinese counterparts.
