Scandinavian Society Siam (SSS) organized the Swedish Crayfish Party 2010 at Bangkok British Club backyard on the evening of 2 October. The rain was pouring down but it was not obstacle at all. 170 guests were seated under four tents covering also the stage and dance floor. This was my first experience with Crayfish Party ever. It was a cozy night when Scandinavians came to meet old friends far away from home. I could see some British joined this event too.
When I just arrived at the British Club, it was about 20 minutes to 7 pm. Some other guest had also shown up early. The participants were welcomed by strong vodka. Then I met 2 gorgeous girls at the registration desk. They were so friendly to me. Free flow beer, house wine, and light beverage were served all night. Besides you could buy special drinks at your own cost.
At 7.30 pm Soren Wettendorff, the president of Scandinavian Society Siam, had a welcome speech.
“Welcome members and guest to traditional Crayfish Party tonight. It is good to see you all. I would like to thank our sponsor Airberlin who supported this event and provided a free air ticket for lucky draw tonight. And we have many giveaway gift vouchers for those who purchase the lottery tickets. I hope you will enjoy tonight and welcome!”
After the speech, participants lined up for boiled crayfish which was imported from France. Another dish like smoked ham, house-bread, spaghetti, and salad were yummy as well. I was told that “snaps” was perfect match to crayfish. I tried but it was too strong for me. It was more fun when we started singing and toasting along with sucking crayfish. For me, crayfish was very yummy when I finished it with my hands and others did the same way. Well it was the best way!
While we were eating the crayfish and food in front of us, Soren went on stage and got more attention than the food because it was time to find the only lucky winner for free air ticket from Airberlin. The lucky winner was Mrs. Dam Pedersen! She was very lucky tonight!
Then the band played the soul-rock music and soon the dance floor was filled up by people dancing and laughing along with loud music. My friend said: “Scandinavians always express their happiness by dancing like their nature is to love partying.” Well… I can see they had a lot of fun together.
Another climax tonight was the lottery where participants bought a tickets of THB 50 each. Someone bought many lotteries just for fun or maybe just get more chance for the valued prizes such as vouchers of famous hotel in Thailand like Four Seasons Hotel, Chaba Resort & Spa in Samui, and Pentacle Hotel. Also free tickets of amusement park like Dream World and Thai cultural show at Siam Niramitra. There was also a free buffet at Stable Lodge restaurant, dinner at Baiyoke Sky Hotel, and Charley Browns Mexicana Restaurant. I was surprised that there were almost too many prizes to win at the Crayfish Party. Peter Koefoed who sat next to me won 3 prizes for Dream World Amusing park, a free buffet voucher and Siam Niramitra tickets. Unbelievable! That was because he bought many lotteries.
We had fun until late in the night. Beers and wine were pouring just like the rain. I love it! It was remarkable and great experience in my first Crayfish Party. I can’t wait for the next party of SSS!
