Danish Church Bangkok signs MoU with Church of Christ Thailand

The Danish Church in Bangkok on Thursday 14 September 2017 signed an agreement with the Church of Christ in Thailand to cooperate regarding admin and Christ Services. The MOU was signed by Mr. Michael Andersen on behalf of the Danish Church Council and witnessed by H.E Mr. Uffe Wolffhechel, the Danish Ambassador to Thailand. Ms. Pia Sundboll, Secretary General of the Danish Church Abroad, co-signed the agreement by electronic signature.

The Danish Church can now rent an office on the premises and hold Christ Services in the Chapel of the Church of Christ in Thailand. According to Dr. Prawate Khid-arn, Assistant to the Secretary General for Ecumenical Relations, the Danish office will placed on the ground floor near the entrance, opposite to the Chapel. The location is extremely convenient and accessible since it is right on the main road in between the Siam BTS station and the Ratchathewi BTS station.

The signing took place as part of the opening of the first day of the Annual General Meeting of all the churches gathered under the CCT. From the Thai side, the agreement was signed by Rev. Dr. Thawesak Mahachavaroj of the Church of Christ in Thailand, who also presented Mr. Michael Andersen with a commemorative gift on the occasion.

Afterwards, Dr. Prawate Khid-arn introduced a speech by Mr. Michael Andersen, who is also the Secretary General of the Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce, by explaining about Denmark that there are currently around 4000 Danes living in Thailand and every year there are 100.000 tourists from Denmark visiting the Kingdom.

In his speech, Mr. Michael Andersen explained that in fact the Danish Church and the Danish Thai Chamber of Commerce had the same goal – to help people in need – and expressed his hope for a good cooperation.

After the signing ceremony, which also included signing similar agreements with four other Christian organisations from Singapore, Korea and Germany, the CCT hosted a lunch before continuing its Annual General Meeting.
