Copenhagen wins prestigious smart-city award

Effective traffic solutions using data instead of huge infrastructural projects is one of the reasons Copenhagen received an award for being smart.

The plan Copenhagen Connection that is a plan to gather and use data to create a better city won the World Smart Cities Award in Barcelona, according to Danish engineering news site Ingeniøeren.dk.

Data is collected from mobile phones, busses, sensors in the sewers and even trash cans with the goal to decrease traffic congestion, air pollution and carbon emissions. Thanks to this plan for smart data use City of Copenhagen can promise the average bus passenger and cyclist a 10% shorter travel time.
