Elderly Danish tourist dies of drowning in Pattaya

A 60-year-old Danish man died of drowning in Pattaya in the early evening of February 21.

According to Pattaya police, the man was brought ashore by other swimmers after he was found floating face-down in shallow waters close to the busy Pattaya beach.

Attempts were made to resuscitate the man but was pronounced dead by the time an EMS team arrived at the scene.

The man was later identified as Carsten Nielsen by a passport in a backpack he had left on the beach. He was also positively identified by the owner of the guesthouse where he had stayed since February 3.

Police said his body was being kept at the Banglamung hospital’s morque pending arrangements for his body to be flown back to Denmark.
