Fashion giant H&M opens its first flagship store in Sabah

14919104700_9ac519931c_zSwedish fashion giant H&M opened its first highly anticipated flagship store in Sabah on Thursday.

Located in 1Borneo Hypermall in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, this is the second store to be opened in East Malaysia following the fashion retailer’s wildly successful first one in Kuching last October.

Speaking to reporters, H&M public relations manager Rachel Yong said the store offers clothing for men, women, teenagers and children.

“The store also houses a huge selection of accessories, lingerie and our relatively new selection of sport wear. We also offer a selection of H&M plus-size collection, which is not available in all stores.

“We also have a garment collecting initiative, where anyone who brings old clothing to be donated will receive a voucher for 15 per cent off their next purchase.”

Even though this is only the second store in East Malaysia, Yong is confident of sales as there is a huge fashion market here.

“Since we launched in Kuching, the sales were very good, better sometimes compared to some stores in the peninsula. We are confident sales in Sabah will be just as great.”

For its grand opening, H&M offered exciting prizes for the over 500 fans of the brand who queued up for the store’s opening day.

The first in line, Tan Boon Leong, received a gift card worth RM200 while the next 50 received RM50 gift cards.

Tan, a UMS student, camped outside the store with two of his friends from 10pm Wednesday to win the RM200 gift card.

“I’m a real H&M fan, so it wasn’t so hard camping out with my friends. Since collectively we received RM300 together, we’re splitting it three ways to share.”

Also present during the opening was Martin Romero, H&M area manager and Line Juhlin, H&M regional sales manager.
