New Grieg Star office inaugurated in Manila

Grieg Star, a fully integrated shipping company from Norway, has moved their companies Grieg Philippines and Grieg Star in Manila have moved to a new office.

On 27 January 2016 Norway’s Ambassador Erik Førner inaugurated the office, which is located in the FiveE-comCenter in the Bay Area, Pasay City, Metro Manila.

Grieg Philippines is the manning arm of Grieg Star and one of the Norwegian shipping companies with operations in the Philippines. Grieg Star has been present in the country for the past three decades, employing Filipino officers and crew for its vessels.

“The new premises will give us a beautiful view of Manila Bay. The building is easily accessible from the public transportation hub in Mall of Asia. The Bay Area is easily accessible from and to the airport. With the ongoing expressway construction around Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard near completion, traffic flow is expected to ease up by a great deal,” said General Manager of Grieg Philippines Dennis P. Desabille.

At the same time Grieg Star established a new company, Grieg Star Philippines, to handle all our administrative services. Jannicke Steen will head this new company.Grieg-Star-ship

“It’s exciting that we have finally reached the stage where Grieg Star Philippines is established. I believe the new addition to our companies will bring our activities closer together, and will contribute to more smooth-running and clear business processes. For me, it is a pleasure to bring the idea to life and to continue to work with my colleagues in a new format,” Jannicke Steen said.

“Our activities in Manila have over time developed to be about more than crewing. This new service will also give us the possibility to strengthen our engagement when it comes to these kinds of services,” Grieg Star SVP HR and Chairman of the board of GSP, Ole Steinar Mjell, said.

The larger office space with larger classrooms will allow them to do more in-house courses, to better prepare their sailing personnel for the work on board. Grieg Star are also in the process of developing a Knowledge Center for the seafarers, wherein they can study publications or browse through the latest information from the company.

Grieg Star is part of the privately owned Grieg Group, established in 1884, today operating a fleet of 42 vessels transporting parcel cargo, break bulk and dry bulk cargo. Of these 32 vessels belong to our open hatch fleet. In addition, the company operates a fleet of 10 dry bulk Supramax carriers. We transport approx. 13 million tons of cargo annually, of which 60% parcel and break bulk cargo and 40% dry bulk cargo.

The group employs approx. 1 100 persons from about 15 nationalities, of which 250 are shore-based and 850 at sea.
