On Jan 28, Danish singer Yazz (Yasmin Kierkegaard) took to the Bangkok stage at Niu’s on Silom crooning some contemporary and classic jazz repertoire. Yazz is backed by a delightful, drummerless trio featuring Jakob Dinesen, one of Denmark’s top sax players, who has eight albums as well as three Danish Grammys to his name.
Rounding out the band are two of Thailand’s top jazz players, O Viriyapark on bass, and award-winning pianist Sunny Wongsansern.
Yazz has recently released So Danso, her debut CD of Latin standards. The Mozambique-born singer says, “For me, Latin is an outlet. It’s happy music that speaks to your body … it allows room for my temperament, my roots, and I can incorporate all the styles I work within.”
