Danes in Hong Kong Celebrates the Queen’s Birthday

Despite the bad weather, over 35 participants gathered for a Junk Trip from Aberdeen, Hong Kong to Po Toi Island on Thursday 26 April 2012. On the Po Toi Island delicious seafood was waiting to be served.

The event was co-organized by the Danish Consulate, the Danish Chamber and the Danish Seamen’s Church in Hong Kong. It has been traditionally held every year to celebrate the Queen of Denmark’s birthday.

During the trip on Po Toi Island, participants noted that it was unfortunately the last time Mr. Torben Gettermann, Ambassador at the Danish Consulate General will give a speech for the Queen’s Birthday, since the Danish Consulate is closing this summer.

“After tasting some delicious crab and squids, the participants were happy to sing Denmark’s National anthem “Det Er Et Yndigt Land” surrounded by nice scenery and Danish flags,” according to Ms. Sophie Sidenius, Office Manager at the Danish Chamber.

The organizers thank their sponsors Maersk Line, Santa Fe Relocation and Jebsen Group who contributed to make the event a success.
