The Danish Consulate General in Shanghai together with China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) held a business seminar on China’s challenges and business opportunities on water, Wednesday 9 May.
As current holder of the EU Presidency, Denmark had chosen to focus on water at this year’s annual EU Day.
Danish Consul General, Ms. Susanne Hyldelund opened the EU Day and said:
”Water is one of the great new challenges in the 21st Century. Having in mind the newly signed partnership on water between China and the EU, it was easy for us to choose water as the topic for this year’s EU Day.”
The Danish Consul General also mentioned Denmark’s ambition to set a green agenda for Europe.
“Green and sustainable growth – especially when it comes to water – is one of the main priorities of the Danish EU Presidency. We have even been dubbed ’The Tap Water Presidency’ as we don’t serve bottled water at meetings in order to save the environment and reduce the Presidency’s CO2 emissions,” Ms. Hyldelund said.
Over the next decade, China plans to spend 470 billion Euros on the water sector, and Danish and European know how about water planning, protection of natural water resources, and purification of waste water are core topics of the European-Chinese water collaboration.
