On the 14th of September, the Finnish Business Council in Shanghai (FBCS) invited Ms. Leena Luckas (Sinologist) to share her insights into the Finnish leadership behavior from the Chinese perspective. A Chinese leadership competence framework was introduced to point out potential strengths and weakness of the Finnish leadership behavior. The presentation was based on Ph.D. research data collected from fourteen Finnish companies in China and on a subsequent application of the framework in Finnish-Chinese organizational context. Nearly 40 participants joined the seminar.
Leena Luckas is a Sinologist (MA) with 16 years of experience in China related political, economic and academic affairs. She came to Shanghai in 1996, and a year later enrolled in Fudan University for a 4-year Chinese language program. Being taught only by Chinese in the Chinese language gave her an insight into Chinese thinking and worldview, which she still draws upon in her interactions with the Chinese.
During 2005-2008 Mrs. Luckas was responsible for Finnish-Chinese trade relations, at the Confederation of Finnish Industries. 2008-2010 she participated in a high-level Finnish-Chinese management research program and started her Ph.D. studies in intercultural communication and leadership at the University of Jyväskylä. Managing the wellbeing of 450 Finnish tourists at the Beijing Olympics, she considers the experience the best “leadership course” of her life.
Currently based in Frankfurt, she provides advice on a wide range of Chinese matters to Finnish and German companies.
