GenoMar’s tilapia hatchery in Philippines gets ISO certification

GenoMar Supreme Philippines, Inc. (GSP) has recently become the first tilapia multiplier and hatchery facility in the Philippines to receive ISO 9001:2000 certification.
     “We, at GenoMar Supreme Philippines, look at this achievement not as the end of our hard work, but rather, just as the beginning. We know we have to maintain and develop our systems to keep ISO’s high quality standards, as well as the corporate standards set by our mother company, GenoMar ASA,” commented Jose Natividad, head of GenoMar in the Philippines.
     GSP is a subsidiary of GenoMar ASA (Norway), one of the world’s leading aquaculture biotechnology companies.
     The ISO-certified state-of-the-art hatchery and multiplier facilities in Lubao, Pampanga were inaugurated two years ago. The two hectare production facility has a rated production capacity of about two to three million fingerlings and breeders per month.
     GSP’s new line of high-survival GenoMar Supreme Tilapia (GST) fingerlings, produced under the strict ISO quality standards, is now available in the market. The company has also assured GST buyers of stocking-to-harvest technical support services as a part of its sales and marketing policy.
     GSP achieved the ISO certification after almost a year of meticulous formulation of technical production systems and processes involved in the production of GST breeders and fingerlings, in accordance with ISO standards. These systems and processes revolve around the company’s quality policy of “Excellence Breeds Quality”.
     The scope of processes and systems on this ISO certification deals primarily on GSP’s breeding operations, hatchery operations, production technical support, materials control, sales and export operations, farmers’ technical support, administrative services, equipment maintenance, documents and records control, and management review process.
