Handover ceremony of three tracked vehicles

The Swedish government donated three all terrain tracked vehicles to Thailand in a ceremony held at the Royal Thai Army headquarters Friday 23 December. General Vichit Jatip, deputy army commander, received the vehicles that were handed over by Mr Jonas Hafström, Sweden’s ambassador to Thailand. The vehicles were loaned for a year in October 2004 to the Royal Thai Army that would try them for rescue and relief operations. When the tsunami struck 26 December 2044, the vehicles were sent to Phang Nga province where they provided great support for the Army’s rescue teams in recovering tsunami victim bodies in otherwise inaccessible terrain and assisting people in need.

The Swedish government later decided to donate the vehicles to Thailand as a gesture of gratitude to the Thai people for all help Swedish citizens in need got during the tsunami.
