Danish Support Vietnam’s Regional and Ethnic Sustainability

Denmark pledge DKK 2 million to support Vietnam’s renewed cultural cooperation program. A five years program aims to develop and promote Vietnam’s regional and ethnic culture.
The fund will grant support to cultural activities in remote areas of Vietnam sustaining the traditional cultural values and identity of the people living in these areas.
Traditional and ethnic cultures in Vietnam are under pressure from modernization and globalization and even more so as people in remote areas belong to some of the poorest in the country both in economic and educational terms.
The new fund is a revised framework of the existing Danish-Vietnamese Cultural Fund, which was originally created in November 1999 with a total support of DKK 3,000,000.
Danish ambassador to Vietnam Mr. Peter Lysholt Hansen together with Mr. Tran Chien Thang, Vice Minister of Culture and Information witnessed a signing ceremony on 30 December 2005.
