SAS Closes Singapore Connection; Finnair Seeks To Expand

SAS has decided to terminate all its commercial traffic to and from Singapore due to the substantial – yet unspecified – deficit that this route produces. Thus the Scandinavian airline will no longer be offering the added connection to Singapore via Bangkok from Copenhagen. The decision was announced over the weekend, and at the same time SAS stated that the connection between Bangkok and Copenhagen will remain unaffected by the removal of Singapore from the airline’s destination catalogue. SAS also stated that it has no plans to cancel any other overseas destinations.

Finnair Upgrades Asian Traffic
At the same time as SAS cuts routes in Southeast Asia, competitors from Finland – Finnair – are announcing their plans to increase their commercial traffic to and from China and the rest of the Asian region. Finnair has decided to increase the frequency of their flights to several destinations in Asia – including China.
“The increased amount of flights to and from our Chinese destinations is a natural part of our Asian strategy, and the demand is huge,” says Finnair’s Vice President Petteri Kostermaa.
