Stronger Trade Union Ties Between Finland and Vietnam

The Finnish delegation was led by the vice president of the Central Organization of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK), Matti Huutola, who flew to the Vietnamese capitol with the purpose of expanding the co-operation between SAK and one of Vietnam’s biggest trade unions.
While in Hanoi, Mr. Huutola met with Deputy President Nguyen Hoa Binh of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), which has no less than five million members nationwide. At the meeting, the two parties agreed to increase their number of regular meetings in the future and to host workshops of matters that are relevant to both unions.
In addition, SAK – the biggest trade union in Finland with over one million card holders – also promised to help train Vietnamese union officials in a joint effort to improve the effectiveness of trade unions at the local level.
