Ericsson to Boost Satellite-based Telephony Network in the Philippines

Swedish telecommunications solutions provider Ericsson will help the Philippine operator SMART enhance the switching capacity of its satellite-based telephony network, called SMART Link. Under the agreement, Ericsson will install its Mobile Softswitch Solution at SMART’s earth station in Subic Bay, north of Manila.

The solution will help the operator efficiently boost capacity and accommodate new users. According to a news release, the Mobile Softswitch Solution improves voice quality and increases network efficiency, helping operators to reduce core network opex by up to 50 percent.

Ericsson is based in Stockholm, and its equipment is used in more than 1,000 networks in 140 countries. Forty percent of the world’s mobile calls are made through Ericsson systems.
