Saab, Ericsson fighting for Malaysian airforce deal

Saab and Ericsson have a submitted a joint bid to Malaysia, which is taking in quotations on four reconnaissance aircraft that will be used to patrol border areas, reports Swedish business daily FinansVision.
     The Swedish bid consists of the Saab 2000 turboprop aircraft equipped. with Ericsson’s Erieye radar. Saab quit production of the popular 2000 model three years ago but does still have many aircraft for sale.
     Erieye has been sold to Brasil, Greece, Mexico and Sweden. Ericsson’s radar solution is also part of another bidder’s, Embrear from Brasil, offer to Malaysia.
     The winner is expected to deliver the first recon aircraft to Malaysia by 2006.
