Carl Nielsen´s ”The Inextinguishable” To Be Performed In Singapore

The Singapore Symphony Orchestra will perform Carl Nielsen’s most popular symphony in Esplanade Theatres on 30 August 2008.
    “Music is life, and like life, inextinguishable”. The famous Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s personal motto is the overriding theme of his fourth and most popular symphony, which depicts an inextinguishable human spirit in the face of conflict, and uses the orchestra to great dramatic effect.
    The title Inextinguishable does not apply to the symphony itself, but rather “that which is inextinguishable”. In his notes for the symphony, Nielsen refers the ‘the elemental will to live”
    The symphony was completed in 1916.
