Monday was the seven year anniversary of the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 202 people – including nine Swedes and three Danish girls.
The three Danish girls were 19-year-old Lise Tangus Knudsen from Skibby, 22-year-old Anette Overgaard Jensen from Holstebro, and 21-year-old Lark Cecilie Bødker from Hjerting in Esbjerg. The three Danish girls were on a three-month study visit at the Danish Study Center in Bali. It took a while before the three missing girls were identified among the burnt victims.
88 Australians, 23 British people, seven Americans, six Germans, four Dutch people and 38 Indonesians were also killed when the bombs went of at a number of the island’s popular nightclubs. 240 people were injured. The majority of victims were holiday-makers in their 20s and 30s.
It quickly became clear that the terrorist group al-Queda was behind the bombings. The masterminds behind the attacks have since either been imprisoned or killed.
