Sunday morning the Danish Ambassador went to Bac Giang to participate in the launching of the national week for raising awareness of health and working conditions at companies.
More than 1,900 fires were also recorded in 2012, up 5 percent over 2011, killing 73 people and injuring 130 others. Eleven people were killed and 20 others were injured in 20 explosions across the country.
At the launch ceremony, Danish ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen and representatives from international social welfare organisations shared their experiences and made recommendations concerning labour safety and fire prevention.
“Much have been done over the years in Vietnam to improve working conditions, but much more should be done in the future. Working conditions are still lagging behind in many companies and institutions and accidents are far to high compared to international standards,” the Ambassador writes on Facebook.
“The Vietnamese Government is aware of this and Denmark has been supporting the Governments program on occupational health for 3 years now. At the same time we are working with both Danish and Vietnamese companies to promote the CSR issue at company level.”
The central province of Thua Thien-Hue will host the 16th labour safety week next year.
