Laos Soccer Team Goes to Gothia Cup

The team representing Laos is from the capital of the Xieng Khouand Province, Phonsavan, which has a population of approximately 25,000 people.

In recent year, EDS FC has won third place in the National Youth Cup in Vientiane, and they have won the Laos National Day Cup, which is the highest soccer achievement possible in the country.

The team played its first game on 19 July at the Ullevi Stadium, where they proudly carried the Laotian flag onto the field before the serious game started. Unfortunately, they lost 3-0, but since then the team has also won a game and played one tie.

“My team and I feel that it is such a great honor to play in the Gothia Cup and represent Laos for the first time,” says Manophet, the team coach.

“I cannot describe how amazing we feel to be able to participate in such a great event and be part of something we only thought we could dream of.”

Gothia Cup is the world’s largest, most international soccer tournament for young people. Every year, 1600 teams from 60 nations participate in the event.
