An American director of Sterling Seafood Corporation is being sentenced to serve almost two years behind bars, and in addition he was charged a fine of $64 million for fraudulent evasion with fish.
The director has between 2004 and 2006 imported nearly 5,000 tons of cheap pangasius filets from Vietnam, labelled the fish as a high-quality product, including tongue-and-bass fillets, and sold it to supermarkets and restaurants, it was found in court.
The American pleaded guilty in misconduct, as he in the beginning of this year agreed to pay a compensation of $50,000 to the American Nature Fond. At the court in Newark, he was faced with the requirement for a good of 64 million U.S. dollars and 22 months imprisonment.
