Danish Tanker Courses in Singapore

Danish-based maritime education centre Marstal Navigationsskole has launched four courses in Singapore.

Three are aimed at the tanker sector and will run starting in late October through mid-November.

They are the first training courses to be held in the Danish company’s new Singapore division – Marnav – which was inaugurated on 14th September 2010.

“We have had an increasing demand for our courses from Southeast Asia. In Denmark our centre is placed on an island, so we’re always thinking of ways to bring training to our clients as an alternative to travelling all the way to Marstal. Setting up shop in Singapore is a natural next step along this road” said Henrik Bisbo, Marnav’s general manager.

The first four courses will be Tanker Vetting, Oil products/ Easy chemicals for office staff, a refresher course in the carriage of Drybulk cargoes and a Commercial Tanker course aimed at shore based staff.

Apart from offering traditional, instructor based courses, Marstal claims to be one of the leading maritime e-learning and distance learning providers.

“We are running successful distance learning examinations for seafarers from all over the world. This type of training allows for maximum flexibility and low costs. Our presence in Singapore will give us an ear to the ground so we can continue to make this type of training relevant for both seafarers and companies,” explained Bisbo.

The three Singapore tanker courses are –

Tanker Vetting: Background and history – Preparing for a vetting inspection – The vetting Inspection – Follow-up: 28th-29th Oct 2010.

Oil products/ Easy chemicals for office staff: IMO – IBC – Marpol – Cargo Cycle – Tank Cleaning & more: 10th-11th November 2010.
