Indonesia Stops Greenpeace´s Rainbow Warrior

Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior, which was slated to dock at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta on Wednesday, was not allowed to enter Indonesian waters.

Greenpeace Southeast Asia forest campaigner Bustar Maitar said that as of Wednesday the Foreign Ministry had not explained why it had not answered the permit request to allow the flagship to enter Indonesian territory.

Foreign Ministry officials could not be reached for comment.

The visit to Indonesia was part of the vessel’s two-and-a-half month voyage in Southeast Asia. The first stop was Thailand.

In Indonesia, Greenpeace was claimed to promote green development and push the government to implement a forest moratorium as stipulated in the Norway-Indonesia US$1 billion climate deal. — JP
