Jomtien Beach Penthouses held a big pool side reception on Sunday 19 December 2010 to celebrated its official opening. The Jomtien Beach Penthouse is the latest hotel and residence project by the active Danish couple Ib and Kannikar Ottesen – and the first project sold with the help of their son Allan Ottesen.

Danish Ambassador Michael Sternberg had accepted as his very last duty as Ambassador to perform the official opening as he was leaving Thailand for his next posting by the end of the month. In his speech, Michael Sternberg noted that Denmark certainly not only had a glorious past in Thailand:
“Denmark has a long history of great entrepreneurs in Thailand like H.N. Andersen and Admiral Richelieu. But being here tonight and seeing what Ib Ottesen and his family has achieved so far – and I understand there is still much more to come – I must say it makes me feel proud to be a Dane in Thailand!” he said.
Before the Ambassador’s speech, Peter Malhotra, Editor and founder of Pattaya Mail, had told the colourful story of how Ib came to Thailand in 1972 almost forty years ago as a sailor. Since then, he had step by step moved up from playing his guitar in the Bangkok bars for 200 baht per night – over setting up the legendary Mermaid Rest in Bangkok and later the Mermaid Beach Resort in Jomtien – to reach finally his and Kannikar’s current position as the developers and owners of some of Pattaya’s finest projects: The Residence Garden, The Residence Suites, Jomtien Boathouse, Jomtien Beach Residence and now also the Jomtien Beach Penthouses.
The latest addition to the Ottesen projects is special because all the penthouse apartments are decorated individually by Khun Kannikar who has surpassed herself in creativity as well as attention to details. Ib Ottesen admitted that getting all the different furniture and decorations for all the apartments delivered and installed from so many different sources had been a bit of a logistic headache – but who cares when the result is worth all the trouble?!
The Opening Reception and especially the ensuing party was great fun not least because Allan Ottesen and most of the other Ottesen kids were there too – the youngest being Ploy Pailin – and they had invited many friends of their own generation. It was therefore quite a young crowd that was thrilled by the Thai entertainment star Tik Shiro who got even the Danish Ambassador out dancing along with him before he went on to sing and dance one of his well known songs together with Khun Kannikar. Later Ib Ottesen – who deep down remains a musician – proved that he had watched Tik Shiro’s style closely. When he got the chance he could not resist the temptation of trying out himself Tik Shiro’s special backhand grip of the microphone which makes it possible to flip it fast back and forth which again results in a special sound effect.
The new Jomtien Beach Penthouses is not the final project for Kannikar, Ib and Allan Ottesen they all three of them confirmed. Both up and down Jomtien Beach Road Soi 9 next to the new Penthouses building there is plenty of land – and the Ottesen’s have already secured these areas for new projects in the future. Meanwhile, these areas offer a wonderful green tranquility to the view from the wide terraces of the new apartments.
