Mikael Hemniti Winther new Danish Ambassador to Thailand

After a long career with the Danish foreign service and intimate knowledge of Sout East Asia, 50 years old Mikael Hemniti Winther has been appointed as Denmark’s new Ambassador to Thailand.

Winther replaces Michael Sternberg, who instead has taken up a position as Danish Ambassador to Romania .

Mikael Hemniti Winther has previously served in both Thailand and Vietnam, and he has worked for the UN in the Philippines. Prior to assuming his position as Ambassador in Bangkok, Mikael Hemniti Winther was Denmark’s Ambassador to Iraq from 2008 to 2010.

He is coming to Bangkok together with his Thai wife, Ratanawadee Hemniti Winther. The new Ambassador speaks the Thai language well. He took up his post on January 4, 2011.
