Swedish Minister has Concluded a Successful Visit to Indonesia

The Swedish Minister for Health and Social Affairs H.E. Mr Göran Hägglund has concluded his visit to Indonesia on 5-7 April 2011.
“This visit by His Excellency Minister for Health and Social Affairs of Sweden Göran Hägglund further strengthens the already excellent bilateral relations between Sweden and Indonesia”, says Ambassador of Sweden to Indonesia  Mrs Ewa Polano.


Minister Hägglund and his the delegation, including Prof. Lennart Persson, Managing Director, from the prestigious New Karolinska University Hospital and a number of  (15)  world class global leading Swedish health care companies, have had a very broad program during this three day official visit, focusing on all the ongoing dynamic health care plans in Indonesia in the public and the private sector as well as the state owned enterprises health care – especially the biggest state owned enterprise Pertamina’s health care subsidiary Pertamedika.


The Minister met with his colleague Minister of Health H.E. Dr Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih on his first day and had an extensive agenda. In order to follow up on all the potential for bilateral cooperation and knowledge sharing in key areas from MDG to providing Indonesia with the Swedish top quality health care equipment, Minister Hägglund invited Dr Endang to visit Sweden later on this year, where they are supposed to develop details in an MoU in health care between the two Governments.


The two Ministers held their opening and key note speeches at a seminar in Hotel Mandarin on Wednesday 6 April: “Health Care for the Future – A Knowledge Sharing Seminar with Sweden”.


In the afternoon Minister Hägglund visited the Lippo Group’s MRCCC Siloam Hospitals Semanggi and met with Lippo Group Founder and Chairman Dr Mochtar Riady and the Siloam Hospitals Group CEO Dr Gershu Paul. The super modern MRCCC hospital is very close to be inaugurated in May this year.


A seminar   – “Linking Partnership between Indonesia and Sweden” – was also held at Pertamedika yesterday, with speeches of Minister Hägglund,  Dr. H. Mardjo Soebiandono, Director PT Pertamedika, and Dr. H. Sugiharto, President commissioner of PT Pertamina. At the end a signing ceremony of an MoU between Pertamedika and the Swedish “SQC Scandinavian Quality Care”  took place. (See further details below.)


During the visit of Minister Hägglund, several business agreements were made and signed;
– between the leading cancer curing company from Sweden ELEKTA and the Lippo Group Siloam Hospitals for a Gamma Knife for the MRCCC.
– An MoU in the field of upgrading hospital management processes and clinical knowledge and it’s strategies was also signed on Thursday between the Scandinavia Quality Care Company SQC and Pertamedika
– as well as with the Jakarta Eye Center,
– Swedish company Getinge also signed several contracts with Lippo Siloam Hospitals Group.
.- Furtheron, Swedish company KanMed – a UNICEF listed Swedish company – donated an incubator “BabyWarmer” to the leading Indonesian Teaching Hospital RSCM. The ceremony took place on 5 April when the Minister and delegation visited the hospital.


Swedish Ambassador Ewa Polano was obviously very satisfied with the outcome and the concrete results already from the Ministerial visitvisit. “We are confident this will lead to increased cooperation between our countries in the field of health care to the benefit of the Indonesian and Swedish people”.


Minister Hägglund and his delegation return to Sweden this evening.
