China´s furniture manufactures check up on Danish design

A large delegation of Chinese furniture manufactures, furniture sales companies and design journalists are visiting Denmark this week under the headline ‘Danish design Tour’.

A Danish-Chinese design seminar opened in Copenhagen in connecting the Danish design tour, where a number of China’s largest furniture manufactures meets with leading Danish design companies.

Denmark’s Minister for Trade and Investment opened the design seminar. The purpose is partly to introduce the Chinese business delegation to Danish designers and furniture companies with an eye to create concrete cooperation, and partly to show the Chinese journalists Danish design tradition.

Pia Olsen Dyhr, Danish Minister for Trade and Investment, said at the opening:

“The Chinese market for furniture is booming these years. I am glad, that Chinese furniture manufactures now gets an opportunity to meet Danish design companies, and I hope this will lead to new strategic partnerships, so Denmark can be a part of this rapid development. In Denmark we have a long and proud design tradition, and I see a great export potential in this area.”

The Chinese market for furniture shows impressive growth rates with an increase in sales of 48 percent from April 2009 to 2010.

China’s furniture manufactures had last year a turnover of more than 40 million dollars.
