The first stage of the Norwegian State Visit to China by Their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja is well under way, stretching over the period 11-October!
Upon arriving to Dunhuang in Gansu Province, West China Their Majesties on 11 October started with renewable energy on the agenda, getting a closer look at Dunhuang’s remarkable commitment and investment in solar energy.
“We need to work together to reach the goals of the Paris agreement, great to have China on board,” stated the Norwegian Embassy in China.
On 12 October the royal couple visited a kindergarten, where students from Norwegian university ‘Høgskolen Høgskulen på Vestlandet’ have been deployed and learned about education for sustainability, to great pleasure for young and old.
Norwegian kindergarten culture met great interest in China, reported the embassy.
Their Majesties then attended the opening of a seminar on early childhood education and research between Høgskulen på Vestlandet Univeristy and Beijing Normal University. The project, which is part of the long-term cooperation between kindergarten research and education, focuses on social, economic and cultural sustainability, teaching young children to treasure their heritage and environment.
On 13 October conservation of cultural heritage was the theme of a visit to the Mogao Caves, the historic caves of Dunhuang. The caves are more than 1000 years old and are a cultural history treasure that impressed Their Majesties.
The royal couple also met Gansu’s party secretary, Lin Duo. HM King Harald spoke of great impressions from the first two days of Dunhuang.
