The Admiral’s opens again for the third time

It is the third time the Danish restaurant Admiral’s opens in Bangkok. Hopefully, it would be the last, said Bent Laasholdt, the owner, who promised a more international slant to the new menu.

The history of the Admiral’s restaurant, a familiar name among Scandinavians, especially Bangkok-based Danes, is quite a roller-coaster ride. Openings and closings, exciting new opportunities that fizzled off, and much more. All this appears to be a thing of the past. The restaurant now opens in a new location at Oakwood Residence Sukhumvit Soi 24.

“We are happy about this opportunity, and we hope it will last this time. Many people support us and appreciate the new opening. ‘Something’s missing, when the Admiral’s is not around’, people tell me,” said Bent Laasholdt who was obviously excited about the busy Christmas season just around the corner.

“We have already 5 or 6 private bookings for Christmas, so I expect it to be busy indeed,” he added.

On Saturday 9 November the Admiral’s will have a soft opening and the next day on Sunday November 10 they will be celebrating the Danish tradition of Morten’s Evening, which means smoked salmon, roast duck and sweet rice pudding will feature prominently on the menu.

“Everything has been very busy in the last two weeks with preparations for the opening, and we are not completely ready. That’s why we call this a soft opening. Later this year, we will throw a grand opening party,” promised Bent Laasholdt.

The restaurant will follow the same concept that Bent and his wife, Na, used to run their previous restaurants. Many of the staff are the same, so are the offerings on the menu. But there will be a few changes, he said.

“We will try to be more internationally outreaching, but still with the Scandinavian touch. We offer traditional Danish Open-faced sandwiches, but also pizzas, pasta dishes and seafood,” he explained.
