Danish envoy helped Myanmar youth to fight against corruption

Ambassador of Denmark to Myanmar John Nielsen attended the discussion, a part of Youth Integrity camp, at the invitation of the Myanmar Anti-Corruption Comission to share his Danish experiences in anti-corruption.

With more than 130 university students from across Myanmar, the discussion was held on June 6 at the 5-day Youth Integrity Camp in Nay Pyi Taw–the camp was officially opened on June 4 by Union Minister for education Myo Thein Gyi and chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission U Aung Kyi.

Organized by Anti-corruption commission of Myanmar together with Ministry of education and the technical assistance from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the youth camp aimed to encourage students to participate in anti-corruption and improve integrity among the young generation.

Ambassador Nielsen was one of the invited speakers who attended the event to disseminate the knowledge on natures of corruption, anti-corruption and how to have strong moral principles.

The Ambassador addressed about costs of corruption on the political, social, economic and moral sector and highlighted that young generation played a significant role in helping country fight against corruption.

The Ambassador also praised Myanmar for launching effective works and activities in promoting combat corruption such as organizing this camp, the anticorruption law and the upcoming whistle-blower bill.

Ambassador Nielsen concluded his talk by expressing his hope for Myanmar to move up its spot in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, in which Myanmar has moved from 156 in 2014 to 132 in 2018.

“I hope these youths can be frontrunners in the combat against corruption,” the Ambassador wrote on his Twitter’s account.
