Danish Foreign Minister, Villy Søvndal, will pay a visit to Vietnam from February 26 to March 1 to boost the positive and strong political dialogue and commercial relations between the two countries.
The four-day visit, which follows the visit by the Danish Prime Minister in November 2012, will focus on political consultations followed by meetings on commercial opportunities and Green Growth.
The Minister will start his visit in Ho Chi Minh City where he will have a talk with Chairman of the People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan. He will also have meetings with a number of Danish companies operating in Vietnam and a meeting at the Ho Chi Minh City Law University.
The Minister will later leave HCMC for Hanoi to have meetings with the political leaders of Vietnam.
Søvndal’s visit reflects the strengthened relations between Denmark and Vietnam, a key political and commercial partner for Denmark in Southeast Asia, said Danish Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. John Nielsen.
“The visit marks an important step towards the finalization of the strategic partnership between Denmark and Vietnam, which is expected to be signed during the Vietnamese President’s visit to Denmark later this year,” the Ambassador said.
Vietnam and Denmark established diplomatic relations on November 25, 1971. Denmark set up its embassy in Hanoi on April 1, 1994, and Vietnam opened its embassy in Copenhagen on August 12, 2000.
