Last Thursday, Danish national, Bent Loyd Skjødt (37) was arrested in Thailand after spending 27 days on Interpol’s wanted list. Bent S. fled Denmark after being convicted of fraud and sentenced to community service.
The Danish national was requested wanted by Danish authorities because they suspected that he had fled out of country.
Usually it can take up to a year to get the national extradited, but because the Dane was wanted internationally, he was arrested by immigration authorities who detained the fugitive and then requested Danish authorities to retrieve him. He landed in Denmark today and will be put in front of a judge tomorrow at 10:00 am. Danish time. There the prosecutor will request that he is detained as he is considered a flight risk.
He was sentenced to eight months of community service suspected of 50 counts of online fraud, where he sold goods he did not have such as phones, cameras and computer equipment.
Following the sentence he is suspected of more internet fraud. He is also suspected of having changed his brain damaged brother in law’s bank information to cheat him out of large sums. If found guilty the suspended conviction will be changed to a prison sentence. In addition he risks another four-six months for his most recent crimes.
The 37-year-old Dane has an 11-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old boy who he brought with him to Thailand. Here they have been staying with his Thai wife who says that she will take care of the children.
So far the Danish national will not be denied entry to Thailand and he will most likely be able to return to his children in a year or so, according to prosecutor Helle Giersing.
