Danish Minister for taxation visits Myanmar

The Danish Ministerial delegation, led by Minister of Taxation Karsten Lauritzen paid a visit to Myanmar on 17-20 January 2019

The purpose of the visit is to exchange the viewpoint about tax policies and conditions for foreign companies in Myanmar.

At the first day of the visit, Karsten Lauritzen paid a visit to Carlsberg, the Danish beer company’s office in Yangon to learn more about about Carlsberg’s experiences in the Myanmar market.

Carlsberg Myanmar is founded in 2013. It has 17 branches across Myanmar and 400 total employees. In 2015, Carlsberg opened Myanmar’s first international brewery in 2015 in Bago where it produces its beer brands Carlsberg, Tuborg and Yoma beer and currently has a market share of 10 per cent.

The day after, the Minister accompanied with U Ko Ko Htoo, Chairman of Industrial Port in Yangon, went to Myanmar Industrial Port to visit Mærsk Myanmar.

Mærsk is the Danish world’s biggest container shipper and since 1991, Maersk have built up local expertise of business and shipping in Myanmar with 14 vessels docking at Yangon port every month.

On 19 January, Lauritzen met Minister of Planning and Finance, U Soe Win. The topics discussed in the meeting include Myanmar’s tax policies and framework conditions for foreign companies investing in Myanmar.

At the same day, Danish Minister had a tour at Yangon Secretariat. The tour is organized by Moe Moe Lwin, Yangon Heritage Trust’s Director and Vice Chairman, Rupert Mann, Program Manager and responsible persons from Anawma Group.

On his last day in Yangon, Lauritzen ended his visit by participation in running half marathon at the Yoma Yangon International Marathon.

“The Embassy also had several participants in the event and we all had a fantastic time,” according to Embassy of Denmark in Myanmar.
