Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs to Visit Vietnam this week

Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Kristian Jensen will pay a visit to Vietnam from October 11th to 13th, 2016. The main purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the bilateral partnership.

Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Kristian Jensen will pay a visit to Vietnam from October 11th to 13th, 2016. The main purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the bilateral partnership.

The visit will focus on promoting Danish businesses’ increasing interest in the Vietnamese market.

In Hanoi, Mr. Jensen is scheduled to meet with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Pham Binh Minh, and have a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc. He will also co-chair the Joint Governmental Committee Meeting on Trade and Investments with Vietnamese Minister for Planning and Investment, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung.

Mr. Jensen will also visit a primary school in Long Bien district to gain first hand experiences in how Danish ODA has been implemented in Vietnam, especially in the area of children’s literature and education cooperation.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Minister will meet with leaders of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee.

During this two-day visit, Minister Jensen will also visit Danish companies including Mascot, a workwear producer; ScanCom, an outdoor furniture manufacturer; and Osterberg, the first Danish ice-cream shop in Vietnam.

“The Danish Foreign Minister’s visit marks 45 years of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam”, says Danish Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Charlotte Laursen.

“The purpose of the visit is to ensure, that our two nations makes our political and commercial partnership even stronger. Vietnam is a key player in South East Asia and a prime example of a successful development cooperation turned into a strong commercial partnership,” the Ambassador adds.

This will be the first visit by Minister Jensen to Vietnam, which will further expand the Vietnamese-Danish partnership focusing on political dialogue, economic and commercial activities. Denmark has maintained assistance to Vietnam matching Danish experience and know-how within green growth, food and agriculture, health services, and education to Vietnam’s agenda to develop a modern and higher middle income country by 2035.

About 130 Danish companies are active in Vietnam. Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Denmark has increased significantly since 2011 and interest from Danish companies in cooperation with Vietnam continues to increase.
