The Thai exhibition #DontTellMeHowToDress opened on 25 November in Makati, the Philippines, as a part of the nationwide campaign Respeto Naman, supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Manila.
The exhibition was launched by its Thai founder Cindy Sirinya Bishop at Power Plant Mall, Makati.
“I’m so humbled and proud of have my campaign be a part of this movement to push back against rape culture and victim blaming in both our countries of Thailand and the Philippines and across the region. The time is now to stand up for our women and girls and let them know that we hear them, we believe them, and we stand with them to fight for their rights to be safe from all kinds of violence,” she wrote on her facebook profile.
#DontTellMeHowToDress is a movement started by Cindy Sirinya Bishop in Thailand in April 2018 after a government official said that women should not dress in attractive clothes in order to prevent sexual harassment. She used the hashtag on Instagram and since then it has turned into an exhibition.
Respeto Naman is a campaign in the Philippines against gender-based violence. It is a project of the Embassy of Sweden in Manila, The Office of VP Leni Robredo, UN Women Safe Cities Metro Manila Programme, SPARK Philippines and Empower.
The #DontTellMeHowToDress exhibition will be open until 1 December 2018.
25 November was International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
