Embassy of Sweden in Manila co-host Women2020 summit


The Swedish Ambassador Harald Fries joined the Women2020 Summit in Samsung Hall at SM Aura Manila, an event celebrating International Women’s Day, on 5 March 2020. His Excellency shared the key milestones and movements in Swedish progress towards gender equality.

The Embassy of Sweden co-hosted the event in partnership with SPARK Philippines,UN Women Asia and the Pacific, UNFPA Philippines,Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment, Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Asia, and the embassies of Austria, France and United Kingdom.

Sweden believes that when women are free to work, educate themselves, and are free from violence, we get societies that are healthier, safer, and more prosperous, for everyone.

Participants were key members of gender equality movements in Manila such as Amina Swanepoel, Cherrie Atilano, Dalareich Polot, and Maica Teves. Alumni of the Swedish Institute Management Programme, presented their work on empowering women through reproductive health, agriculture, and social action.
