India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently held separate talks with foreign Ministers from Thailand, Singapore, and Norway on the country’s devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, media Outlook India reports.
The second wave of Covid-19 infections in India is currently ravaging several parts of the country and putting medical personnel and hospitals under pressure as supplies are running low.
Thailand has supplied India with 15 oxygen concentrators as a gift while the Indian community in Thailand has sent a separate consignment of 15 oxygen concentrators. In addition, Outlook India reports that sources have said that an extra 100 oxygen cylinders have been offered separately by the Indian Association of Thailand, and transportation plans are already in the works.
Following the Minister’s conversation with Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, he tweeted, “Discussed the COVID-19 challenge and international cooperation with Thai DPM & FM Don Pramudwinai. Appreciated the supplies of cryogenic tanks and other oxygen-related equipment. Confident that we can continue to count on our partnership with Thailand.”
In another tweet, the Minister said he also discussed India’s current Covid-19 situation and its global implications with Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide. Following the conversation, he tweeted, “Received a solidarity call from FM Ine Eriksen Søreide of Norway. Discussed the COVID situation and its global implications. Thanks for the support extended by Norway. Also exchanged notes on our close cooperation in the UN Security Council.”
Lastly, S Jaishankar expressed his gratitude for the special relationship between India and Singapore and noted how much it matters in these difficult times. “Good conversation with FM @VivianBala of Singapore. Thanked him for the support provided of oxygen-related equipment. Appreciate the rapid facilitation of our airforce and navy supply missions,” he tweeted.
“Singapore is a logistics hub of great value. Our special relationship matters even more in these difficult times,” the Minister added.
