The Danish Film Week will be held once again in the central cities of Hue and Danang from July 5 to 11.
Co-sponsored by Calsberg Vietnam, the event is arranged to bring Vietnamese audience the Danish cinematic experience through a worth watching selection of contemporary Danish movies as well as to enhance the cultural bond between Denmark and Vietnam.
Six movies presenting stories about post-World War Denmark, modern intense human life and romantic quests for true love that will be screened at the festival are as follows:
-“LONG STORY SHORT” is a romantic drama movie consisting of 8 chapters presented through two geeky characters Ellen and Max who through the eight individual scenes meet at eight different parties. In the synopsis on Misofilm’s website, “LONG STORY SHORT is a story about believing in love to be a rational choice between the most suitable candidates. But as the anti-heroes will experience love is far from rational, but is controlled by lust and destiny.”
-“Across the waters” is a drama-history movie portraying lives of Danish Jews who are attempting to escape from deportation to Nazi extermination camps in October 1943.
-“Key house mirror” is a drama movie released in 2015. It is directed by Michael Noer, the director of a remake version of Papillon 1973. Key house mirror presents a story of Lily who has been married for more than 50 years with Max, her husband who has been reliant on professional care since his stroke. The movie focuses on the inner conflict of Lily who is struggling over her longing for excitement and intimacy and her responsibility of being a good wife for her husband.
-“Land of Mine” is a Danish-German historical drama war film released in 2015. Directed by Martin Zandvliet, the film was selected and nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film category at 89th Oscars. Inspired by real event, the film is about the life of German war prisoners who were sent to remove land mines in Denmark after World War II.
-“The Hunt” received quite an impressive feedback from the mass as it was both financial and critical success. It premiered on 20 May 2012 as the first Danish-language film in the main competition since 1998 at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival where its leading actor Mads Mikkelsen won the Best Actor Award. The film takes place in a small Danish village where a man starring by Mikkelsen was accused of sexually abusing a child in his kindergarten class.
-“A Hijacking” is a 2012 Danish thriller film written and directed by Tobias Lindholm. The film premiered at the 69th Venice International Film Festival. This ship hijacking movie was inspired by commercial Danish ships hijacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean.
The screenings will take place at Cinestar, 25 Hai Ba Trung Street in Hue City and at Galaxy, 478 Dien Bien Phu Street in Danang City.
Entrance is free of charge and tickets are available for pick up at the cinemas from June 24. This is the third time the Danish Film Festival to be organized in Vietnam.
