The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Finland and China Disabled Peoples’ Federation (CDPF) collaborated to support the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics which will begin on Friday, March 4, 2022 and end on Sunday, March 13, 2022.
According to the a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed on May 29, 2019 by Secretary General from Finland’s NPC Tero Kuorikoski and Vice President from CDPF and China’s Paralympic Committee Wang Meimei, the cooperation between two nations aimed to assist in preparing for the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics and beyond. This MoU is hoped to be the first of many agreements in the field of para-sport between Finland and China.
CDPF’s Vice President Meimei highlighted the benefit that two countries can gain from this cooperation and expressed her hope to broaden the cooperation to summer sports as well.
“China and Finland have a good and long relationship. We have been inspired by Finnish nature and the work done at the grassroots level in Finland. This cooperation is a good opportunity to learn from each other,” she said.
A statement from Petri Tulensalo, the Head of Winter Sports Cluster at Business Finland, posted online by Business Finland addressed:
“Signing of this memorandum will not only help to promote the development of Paralympic sports cooperation between the two countries, but it is also a sends a message, that winter sports are for all regardless of disabilities or limitations.”
Tero Kuorikoski from Finland’s NPC also mentioned about how societies can be equalized by Paralympic movement.
“There are already many examples of Chinese athletes training in Finnish Sport Institutes or with Finnish trainers. However, Finnish know-how is not the only thing we can promote to China.
“We must remember the huge size of the Chinese market for example in the assistive devices, where Finnish products could seize the opportunity and offer services for the growing demand, he told Business Finland.
