While the opening date is yet to be confirmed, Indonesia’s first IKEA store has been constructed in the western vicinity of Jakarta, the building is around 33.000 square meters, approximately the size of 5 football fields.
According to Indonesian newspaper The Jakarta Post, the first IKEA in Indonesia will soon be opening at Jl. Jalur Sutera Boulevard in Alam Sutera, Tangerang.
Indonesian retail giant PT Hero Supermarket secured the franchise license of Ikea in March 2012, and is currently waiting for final approval from IKEA to set an opening date.
Assembling the products may be a novelty for some, as many Jakartans are accustomed to having everything assembled by store staff in their houses.
But according to Benedicte Hansen, the marketing director of IKEA Indonesia, the management have anticipated people’s response to the Swedish way of shopping furniture.
“We will surely place a bigger number of coworkers to help customers. We will also provide an option of having the products assembled at the customers’ houses, but if they want to save money, they can assemble the products by themselves,” she tells the Jakarta Post.
