Marimekko expansion in China continues to Beijing and Shanghai

Marimekko continues its expansion in Asia by opening three new stores in China. The design houses first shops in mainland China will open this summer in Beijing and Shanghai.

Marimekko is a Finnish company based in Helsinki that has made important contributions to fashion, especially in the 1960s. It is particularly noted for brightly colored printed fabrics and simple styles, used both in women’s garments and in home furnishings

Later on this year, the company will open a second shop in Hong Kong.  Marimekko plans to open 15 to 24 new shops in its key market areas in Northern Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

“Marimekko’s sales trend in the Asia-Pacific region has continued to be extremely strong. The enormous Chinese market clearly has room for new and attractive Nordic design brands,” comments Mika Ihamuotila, President and CEO in a press release.

The first Marimekko stores in Beijing will be located in Sanlitun Village in the Chaoyang district and the Shanghai store in the brand-new International APM mall on the popular Huaihai shopping street. The second Marimekko store in Hong Kong will open in the Elements mall situated directly above the Kowloon MTR Station.

Last year, the Finnish clothing and design company opened 19 new stores and shop-in-shops of which 12 were outside Finland and including countries such as the USA, Canada, Sweden, Japan and Hong Kong.
