3000 young football players will meet this weekend in Hue, when Football for All in Vietnam (FFAV) is arranging the biggest football tournament in Vietnam.
With over 300 teams, about 3150 young football players and over 200 volunteers, this will be the biggest children`s football cup in Vietnam. 1369 football matches will be played on 36 football fields and representatives from the Asian Football Association, FIFA, as well as both the Vietnamese and Norwegian Football Associations are planning to visit. The Norwegian Embassy will also be present.
The FFAV Cup lasts for 4 days and comprises of three classes: U12, U15 and a class for players with a disability. There is a 50/50 share of boys and girls teams. Not only Vietnamese teams will be playing in the cup, there are also registered teams from Thailand and Laos.
The opening day the cup will start with a parade through town and a large welcoming party for all the participants. In the evening there will be cultural arrangements where many of the players will participate.
Football For All in Vietnam (FFAV) was initiated after a meeting between the presidents of the Vietnam Football Association (VFF) and the Football Association of Norway (NFF) in 1997, in connection with the FIFA election campaign. They agreed that NFF should try to find funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Norway, to make a feasibility study on grassroots football development in Vietnam.
Football for All in Vietnam (FFAV) has given kids in Hue the opportunity to play football for fun and acquire important life skills through football for 10 years. The FFAV projects use football as a basis to teach children and adult’s life skills related to topics such as HIV/AIDS, sanitation, environment, and safety issues related to unexploded remnants of war.
