Norway Gives 20 million NOK Humanitarian Aid to the Philippines

-I want to express sympathy with the Filipino people who have been hit so hard by this disaster. We follow the humanitarian situation in the Philippines closely and will provide further assistance when we get a better overview of the needs, said Norwegina Foreign Minister Børge Brende.

Philippines was on Friday hit by Typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda. The devastation is enormous, and there is great need of humanitarian assistance. Norway is the third largest contributor to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund to help the victims of the hurricane. Moreover, the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap) agreed to assist the UN with expertise and resources.

– Norway sets up to help the Philippines in this humanitarian crisis. The 20 million that we contribute will be channeled through the UN, the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations having access to the affected areas, said Brende.
