Norwegian found dead in Siem Reap hotel

A young male Norwegian tourist has reportedly been found dead in his room on the 3rd floor of the Thunborey Hotel, Siem Reap in Cambodia.

A police official identified the dead foreigner as ‘Kristoffer Gulliksen”, a 22 year old Norwegian male, holding passport #28242067. The deceased had entered Siem Reap Town on the 18th of April, 2013, arriving in Cambodia through the Poipet border crossing with Thailand, and had been staying in Room 327, on the 3rd floor of the Thunborey Hotel, where he was found dead at 3 pm on the 19th of April, 2013.

Although police would not officially release information about the cause of death, a medical examiner at the scene stated that the foreigner had overdosed on medication to treat a brain disorder and that a foreign prescription had been found on his person. A police official revealed off the record that police refusal to allow reporters to take photos of the body came at the request of the hotel’s owner who was fearful of negative publicity.

The report adds that although he did not attend the scene personally, the owner of the hotel, which is located in Vihear Chen Village, Svay Dongkeum Commune, had sent forth a representative to confer with police in an effort to hush up the incident.
