Sweden supported guidance on sexuality education in Thailand

Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok partnered with UNESCO Asia-Pacific to co-host the launching ceremony of the revised ‘International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education (ITGSE)’ in Thai language. The event took place on June 25 at the Residence of Swedish Ambassador to Thailand Staffan Herrström who gave his welcome remark to greet all attendants to the event.

The key panelists at the event were international model, host and activist Cindy Sirinya Bishop, ‏Regional Advisor (HIV and Health) at UNESCO Bangkok Kabir Singh, a 15-year-old school student Pakhaporn Ieamcham and Former Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Education Werasit Sittitrai.

ITGSE was made to promote sexuality education in Thailand and underline the importance of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) by providing education, health, other relevant authorities as well as young people with the document that people can implement as an advocacy or accountability tool.

The key mission of the CSE that is to address the health and well-being of children and young people was highlighted at the interactive panel discussion. In Thailand, CSE assisted young people by providing them with the accurate knowledge, age-appropriate skills and attitudes in the areas such as human rights, gender equality and sexual behaviors risks so that the children can live happily in healthy, positive and respectful relationships.

There was also the screening of the exhibition titled “A Foundation for Life and Love” gathering the photographs from the campaign, profiling the voices of young people and their families from several countries across the world.
