Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs visits Singapore

 

The Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt, visited Singapore and attended the 12th International Institute for Strategic Studies Asia Security Summit (Shangri-La Dialogue 2013).

He called on Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam on June 1, 2013.

Minister Shanmugam and Minister Bildt reaffirmed the warm relationship between Singapore and Sweden, which is underpinned by excellent cooperation in the political, economic and defense sectors.

Minister Shanmugam thanked Minister Bildt for Sweden’s strong support for Singapore’s successful application for observer status in the Arctic Council. Both Ministers looked forward to the approval and ratification of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA), which will further enhance the robust economic linkages between Singapore, Sweden and Europe. They also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Minister Bildt also had bilateral meetings with Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, and United States Secretary of Defence, Chuck Hagel.

On Sunday evening June 2, Ambassador Ingemar Dolfe hosted a dinner for Minister Bildt where he met with members of the Swedish business community in Singapore.
